Margaux Brecht is a doctoral candidate at the Center ICT&S<\/a>. In 2024, she completed her master’s degree with honors at the Universit\u00e0 degli Studi di Siena<\/a>. In her master’s thesis, she examined the phenomenon of digital disconnection using digital ethnographic methods. The aim of her research was to analyze whether and in what form content creators in the influencer industry develop tactics and strategies to distance themselves from social media. <\/p>\n

During an Erasmus stay at Universidade Nova in Lisbon<\/a> in 2023, she deepened her knowledge of critical communication theory. Through her master’s degree in \u201cTheories and Strategies of Communication,\u201d she also explored other fields of research, including science and technology studies (STS), critical algorithm research, and the analysis of digital infrastructures. <\/p>\n

Prior to this, she obtained a dual German-French degree from Saarland University<\/a> and the University of Lorraine<\/a> in 2021. In her bachelor’s thesis, she analyzed the communication strategies of two protest movements \u2013 the gilets jaunes (France) and the sardine (Italy). <\/p>\n
