Ingrid Paus-Hasebrink studied journalism, German studies and sociology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, where she also completed her doctorate and taught at the Institute for Journalism and the Institute for German Language, Literature and Didactics. She habilitated at the Faculty of Education under Prof. Dr. Dieter Baacke with a thesis on “Heldenbilder im Fernsehen” and also taught there. She then worked as a visiting and deputy professor at the Universities of Salzburg and Klagenfurt. Following appointments at the Universities of Klagenfurt and Salzburg, she was Professor of Audiovisual Communication (2001-2018) and Head of the Audiovisual and Online Communication Division at the Department of Communication Studies and its founding head (2004-2006). She was a member of the Academic Senate (2009-2010), Vice Dean (2009-2011) and Dean of the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences at the University of Salzburg (2011-2015), as well as numerous other functions. She led numerous national and international research projects [e.g. EU Kids Online; long-term study on the media socialization of socially disadvantaged adolescents (2005-2021), see: Project page Media Socialization Research].
