Tales Tomaz presents EurOMo at global transparency symposium
Euromedia Ownership Monitor presented at global symposium on beneficial ownership transparency
Assistant Professor Tales Tomaz took part in the 2026 Research Symposium: Evidence and impact of beneficial ownership transparency, hosted at the University of Sussex (Brighton, UK) on 26-27 February 2026. The event was organised by Open Ownership, the World Bank Group’s Beneficial Ownership Transparency Thematic Working Group, and the Centre for the Study of Corruption (CSC) at the University of Sussex.
At the symposium, Tomaz presented the Euromedia Ownership Monitor (EurOMo), sharing insights on media ownership transparency and the role of ownership data in safeguarding democratic public debate. Engaging with researchers, civil society, multilateral organisations, and public-sector practitioners, the presentation connected debates on beneficial ownership (BO) to pressing questions of media pluralism and political influence.
Reflecting on the discussions, Tomaz highlighted that beneficial ownership transparency is often framed primarily through the lens of anti-corruption and financial crime, an important focus but not the only one. The symposium offered an opportunity to strengthen the message that BO transparency can and should also support broader public-interest goals, including media accountability and pluralism.
