Mariia Aleksevych is a doctoral student and research associate of the Division of Media Politics and Media Economics at the University of Salzburg. In 2023, she obtained Master of Science degree in Digital Communication Leadership (DCLead) and International Development from University of Salzburg and Wageningen University in the Netherlands finishing the double degree DCLead program with distinction.

In her Master Thesis, she investigated affective polarization in climate change discussion on Australian Twitter drawing on discourse theories. Before this, she worked as a communication expert, media professional and journalist with various international development projects and missions, such as EU Advisory Mission and OSCE Special Monitoring Mission, in her home country Ukraine. She also has a Bachelor´s degree in International Relations and a Specialist´s degree in International Information from the Dnipropetrovsk National University (Ukraine). Her research interests include effects of communication technologies on democracy and interrelations between development of media, technology and power and social justice.
