From 1994 to 2009, Manfred Knoche was a full professor of journalism and communication studies with a special focus on media economics and head of the Department of Media Economics and Empirical Communication Research. Doctorate in 1978 and habilitation in 1981 at the Free University of Berlin. From 1974 to 1983, he was a University Assistant and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Journalism at the Free University of Berlin, and from 1983 to 1994, he was a University Professor of Communication Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. His theoretical and methodological research approach is a critique of the political economy of the media, i.e. media economic and political analyses are part of a critique of society as a critique of capitalism within the framework of critical social theory.
