Migration, memes & branding: AustrianKiwi @ KoWi
The well-known social media creator AustrianKiwi will visit the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Salzburg on Wednesday, 14 May at 9:15 a.m.
In his guest lecture, held in the Anna-Bahr-Mildenburg Lecture Hall (Unipark Nonntal), he will explore the intersection of humour, migration, and personal branding—themes he engages with creatively, humorously, and critically in his high-reach online videos.
Jonny Balchin, known as AustrianKiwi, has gained widespread recognition on platforms like YouTube and Instagram for his entertaining takes on cultural differences between Austria and New Zealand, as well as for sharing his personal migration story. His talk offers fascinating insights into how social media, identity, and intercultural communication are deeply connected in today’s digital public sphere.
