Guest Lecture by Corinna Peil at Wayne State University
On September 28, 2026, Corinna Peil will give a guest lecture at Wayne State University in Detroit on the often-invisible prerequisites of digital participation in everyday life. The lecture will also mark the start of her research semester in the fall of 2026.
Under the title “The Hidden Work of Digital Life & Everyday Media Literacy,” Corinna Peil will deliver a guest lecture on September 28, 2026, at Wayne State University in Detroit.
The lecture begins with the observation that digital participation is based on diverse forms of everyday work that are often overlooked in traditional conceptions of media literacy: solving technical problems, maintaining access, dealing with disruptions, or asking others for support and providing support oneself. Drawing on research into “media maintenance” and everyday support networks, the lecture demonstrates how digital literacy emerges relationally and is sustained through social relationships. This is coupled with a call for a broader understanding of media literacy that also takes into account the often-invisible work that makes digital participation possible in the first place.
